Traditional Pathway

Youth/Club Soccer
Start: Ages 8–19
Duration: 8–11 years
Goal: Play tournaments, hope to get noticed for scholarships.
High School Soccer
Ages: 14–18
Duration: 4 years
Limitation: Rarely scouted internationally, mostly local recognition.
College Soccer (NCAA)
Ages: 18–22
Duration: 3–4 years
Limitation: Level is much lower than European academies, very few scouts attend.
MLS Draft / Combines
Age: 22–23+
Duration: 1–2 years (if drafted at all)
Limitation: Very small number of players drafted each year, most don’t go pro.
Professional Contract (if successful)
Age: 23–25+ (average)
Timeline: 10–15 years from starting competitive soccer.
Outcome: Very uncertain, odds are extremely low even with talent
